What is the treatment?
planoplas® is a non-surgical lift procedure which can give the same results as traditional surgery. It is safe, virtually painless and is performed without cuts or anaesthesia, however, an anaesthetic cream is applied locally prior to treatment. This innovative technique will not cause over-lifting. Only the excess skin is affected during the procedure. Clients are able to notice results right away although it takes several weeks for full effects to be visible. planoplas® procedure may only be performed by a certified specialist.
How long will the effects of the treatment last?
The treatment should last long-term rather then few months. Ageing is a dynamic process and there are many factors affecting clients individually; lifestyle, diet and genetics just to mention few. At this moment in time, permanent results are not available. After any anti-ageing procedure or traditional surgery your skin will continue to relax (loosen) again. In some rare situations ageing may be accelerated and effectiveness of planoplas® would be shortened. Your planoplas® specialist will discuss those conditions so you will have a better understanding of what to expect.
How does the eyelid lift/skin toning with planoplas® work?
During the treatment, the plasma effect results in a thermal skin reaction. The treatment lasts between 5-15 minutes depending on the size of the area. Including preparation and cooling, you should plan for approximately 1.5 hours.
What is plasma?
Plasma is referred to as the 4th aggregate state of matter. This state of matter is achieved by supplying sufficient energy to split atoms into electrons. As a result, a cloud of free, negatively charged electrons and positively charged ions and molecules is created. This cloud, consisting of charged particles, is called plasma. The matter has completely new physical properties in this state. Because planoplas® ionizes the ambient air, consisting mainly of nitrogen and oxygen, reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species are produced.
How does it work?
The plasma produced by the planoplas® consists of ionized gas, namely the ambient air, consisting mainly of approximately 78% nitrogen and 20% oxygen. This produces a micro-flash. The required energy is minimal, but the generated plasma transmits the energy very precisely to the skin and protects the surrounding tissues. The precision of the planoplas® is outstanding and produces excellent results. Clients can resume regular activities right away with minimal discomfort.
How does planoplas® affect the skin?
The plasma produced with the planoplas® has 2 different mechanisms of action:
Extrinsic (external): The planoplas® plasma pen procedure creates micro-ablation which is strictly limited to the upper layers of the skin and is very precise. The underlying tissue is spared, allowing accelerated healing.
Intrinsic (internal): The plasma produced contains ionized particles that reach deeper layers of skin causing a slight anaesthesia, accelerating the healing (plasma disinfects) and inducing scar-free healing.
How does plasma accelerate wound healing?
The intrinsic plasma effect is mainly generated by the nitrogen reactive species and the oxygen reactive species that reach deeper skin layers. Plasma causes an acceleration of mitosis and fibroblast migration, as well as a promotion of new vascularisation. Mitosis and migration of keratinocytes are also encouraged.
Why is the wound healing after a planoplas® treatment scar free?
The planoplas® treatment does not injure the dermis. The plasma generated by the planoplas® stimulates the dermis through the nitrogen and oxygen reactive species.
Why is the planoplas® treatment virtually pain-free?
Due to the precision of micro-ablation (tissue removal), the underlying tissue is not damaged. Plasma even has a slight numbing effect. Both factors allow treatment without injectable anaesthesia.
Is there a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH) from the planoplas® treatment?
planoplas® does not induce pigmentation. It is important, however, to protect the treated skin from UV (solar) radiation for several weeks to months.
Is after-care important?
In a word, “YES!” For undisturbed wound healing, our special aftercare products must be used and appropriate care instructions should be followed. Sports, swimming and sauna are not permitted until the scabs fall off.
What can be expected after an eyelid lift/skin tightening with planoplas®?
After the treatment is performed, there is local swelling. Clients will be shown how to cool the skin areas to soften the swelling.
In the morning after treatment, the swelling is strongest. The swelling depends on the treatment intensity, treatment area and the tendency of the client to swell. The swelling quickly fades away and usually disappears after 3 days.
1-2 days after treatment, crusts (scabs) are created that mustn’t be scraped. These fall off after 6-8 days.
The skin is then pink for approximately 4 weeks to 4 months. UV protection with SPF 50 must be applied in order to avoid hyperpigmentation.
Is a consultation required?
Yes. A free, face-to-face consultation is required by all. Careful assessment by a planoplas® specialist will ensure a suitable and realistic treatment plan.
What are the advantages of eyelid lift/skin toning with planoplas®?
· No syringes are required and therefore no bruises are expected
· No general anaesthetic required
· No cuts necessary
· Immediate visible tightening
· Relatively short downtime
· No scars
· No asymmetries
· No change of eye (facial expression) for eyelid lift
· No risk of over-correction
What are the advantages of planoplas® treatment compared to laser treatment?
· In a laser treatment, eg fractional laser, the dermis is damaged with the laser to trigger the healing process. In contrast, the planoplas® treatment does not damage the dermis, but stimulates it. The high-energy plasma particles penetrate the skin layers and trigger a tightening effect and accelerated healing.
· The planoplas® application is less painful.
· With planoplas®, healing is always free of scars so long as the client adheres to the appropriate after-care.
How many sessions are necessary?
The number of sessions depends on the type of findings, the skin region to be treated, the intensity of treatment and the healing capacity of the skin.
Depending on the desired result, 1-4 sessions may be necessary although 1 session is often enough.
Is planoplas® a tested device?
Yes, the planoplas® plasma pen is CE certified and completely made in Germany, therefore, it meets high health, safety and environmental protection requirements. Similarly, the planoplas® plasma pen is EU-compliant due to the close cooperation with the DEGEUK-German Society for EU Conformity (www.degeuk.de).
Is it necessary to wear a special eye protection during treatment?
Special eye protection is not necessary. Plasma is harmless for the eyes of the client or the practitioner.
How should I prepare for the procedure?
Please do not apply any cosmetics or fake tan before the procedure. You should tell your practitioner about any recent medical conditions and medications taken. Please disclose all previous surgeries or aesthetic procedures performed on your skin.
